Happy Birthday to Donnaaaa, Happy Birthday to yoooou
That's right 22 years ago on the 12th of April, Miss Donna Heath was born, not to long before mum and dad were chosen as her adopted parents ...joyous occasion, lots of balloons... The adoption that is, not the birth.
This year, like myself, her birthday ended up falling the same time as she was visiting me in Thailand! And I don't think her birthday could have got anymore thai if she tried!
Started off the day looking for a place to grab some brekkie. It was our first day in Bangkok, so we were a little los.
Found this cute little local caff, with around 8 old Thai men. It was like a non alcoholic version of an English pub with the standard regulars featuring 'the wise punter', 'the joker', 'the target' plus a few others. Have to say, the food, not good, company, great :)
We then headed back to our room to get ready for the pool, when we had a knock at the door. The lovely staff at the De Moc hotel had noticed it was dons birthday, from her passport. They had organised a plate of yummy fruit and all gathered in our room to sing 'happy birthday'
As it was a standard gorgeous Thai day, we had the luxury of being able to chill by the pool and enjoy the sun, interrupted by lunch (hard life!)
I gave my sister her prezzie a couple days earlier, which consisted of an elephant treck in Koh Samui. She was allowed to do the second half of the treck on the elephants neck, and although she panicked a bit, I'm pretty sure the gift was a success :)
Our hotel was only a 10 min walk to the legendary Khosan Road, so we decided to go find food there. We knew it was the Thai New Year (Songkran) but we had been waiting to dress up for ages so come water fight or talc we were going to look faaancy, even if it was for 2 seconds!
We scrubbed up quite well, never felt so good to straighten my hair! Couldn't forget my travelling life though, esp with my only form of foot wear being my flip flops. These came in very useful lat however when we saw the true part style of the Thai world. Can I just say, it truly proved my theory that Thai people, are in fact, crazy!
It wasn't long before we got drenched with water, face smeared with wet talc and stood on by hoards of people dancing in the street. I wish I had more pics, but there is no way I was getting my camera out in that crowd!
We pushed through to find food, which consisted of BBQ king prawns, pork satay and fries. Once we'd enjoyed a couple cocktails, downed a couple shots and purchased our water guns (complete with lady bug water container backpack) we were ready to hit the streets.
We danced, sang, drank and seeked revenge on those who targeted us, whilst celebrating my little sisters 22nd birthday and the people of Thailands New Year! 555!!! Much love!!!
