Meet Robert...
Ok so we've been here 2 days and already had a near death experience... Slightly dramatic and untrue, but for excitement purposes we'll stick with it.
Today we went all round George town; visited mosques, Chinese temples, went to the Esplanades and had a go in the romantic bike/cart/buggy thingys. We're such tourists!!
Best part of our treck around was the Chinese Temple, we were 2 of a total of 4 non Asian people in there and the rest were in the process of praying. Luckily one dude took pity on us and showed us how to pray Chinese Buddhist style! Admittedly, seeing as Papa and Mama were Chinese descendants and Buddhist, I should already know this but never mind!
We then had lunch in a Malaysian buffet restaurant which was yummy before heading back to our hotel.
In the evening we went to Little India, if you ever visit Penang, eat here! It's got a great Indian atmosphere with music playing from the shops and food everywhere! This is where the fun began...
So we're looking for Little India, when we stop and ask a random dude. He decided to show us in person rather than giving directions, which we thought was lovely of him.
We reach Little India and made our own way to a street seller to order a couple curries... The man follows and sits with us. At the end of the table another little old man sits down also and starts occasionally talking to stalker dude to the right of us. He eventually asks us if the dude is our taxi driver, tour guide or friend, so when we said non of the above he cautiously tells us to go with him.
Usually we wouldn't follow a random man anywhere, but he seemed like the safer option at the time! Good job we did as he turned out to be the nicest guy ever! He explained that the stalker dude wasn't Malay, he just comes over to work and he was worried for us as he didn't have a good feeling about the mans intentions.
The mans name turned out to be Robert, although we're still not totally convinced. He took us on a tour of George Town and the surrounding areas. We visited Temples, Buddhas, beach fronts, he told us about the seas, the Malay culture and various religions. He even told us about the do's and dint's when it comes to visiting places and keeping safe. He was so knowledgable and was clearly a great business man in his time, he had visited places all over the world including England, Canada, America, France etc.
Eventually after stopping at The Hard Rock cafe to be nosey at the inside and showing us where we can get the bus in the morning he dropped us off back at our hotels street.
Such a nice dude, wouldn't accept any money and wished us a good holiday... Kinda gives you some more faith in humanity :) thanks Robert, if that is your real name!
