Penang in a nut shell
Carrying on from our meeting with 'Robert' things in Penang just carried on getting more random...
We've watched Hairspray on a big screen by the pool at the Hard Rock Hotel, pretended we were rich and watched a live band in the Hard Rock Cafe, had an hours long drive with a complete random old couple, visited a nutmeg factory, been fake inked by an Indian woman and been snapped with a stone work of Donald Duck at a Buddhist temple... To name a few things.
We've also been taught a few things like... Pineapples grow on the ground, Muslim women actually do have to make a lift of their veil for every bite of food, beach boys can't be trusted and Malay people love Man United... Yeah! Worth knowing!
We've only been here a week but my first impressions of Malaysia is very mixed, it has the most stunning views and scenery from up the top of the hills and the food is amazing but there are a couple things that I find odd.
They don't seem to have their own identity, Malaysia seems to be more about integrating different nationalities like Chinese, Indian, Thai with a little bit of the Western lifestyle chucked in.
Penang can be very Western at times, you can actually throw tissue in the loo, they have proper plug sockets, the buses are air conditioned and the houses near the coast are like something you would find in Miami, saying that I think I still miss the simplicity of Thailand with their rickety buses and quirky old homes... Think I need to get my head and heart to follow my body into Malaysia??
We are off to Kuala Lumper tomorrow but so you can have a sneaky peak at what we've done in Penang here are some pics of the fruit farm, town, beach, temples and Penang Hill... Yup I actually made it up a couple hills!
