My Thai Family :)
On a lighter note! I thought tonight was the perfect time to introduce you to my Thai family! They have just thrown me the cutest goodbye meal, filled with my fave Thai foods... Except pad Thai, that was yesterday :)
Since I got here 2.5 months ago I have been living with a ridiculously kind family called the Kamthorns. There is Papa, Mama, their daughter and her daughter Yim. I don't know the daughters name, it's one of those awkward (there's no ideal time to admit I never caught your name the first time) situations! I try to listen out, Yim calls her meh meeeh and I never hear mama or papa call her so...
We live in a two storey house in the middle of nowhere. It's surrounded by papa's rubber plantation and their garden, which is filled with home grown fruits and vegetables. The down stairs consists of the kitchen and their baby care centre called Yim Baby Care (Yim means smile in Thai)
I used to share my room with Diane, but since she's gone I have my own room and bathroom.
A little bit about each family member... Papa, as I said before has his own rubber plantation. He is a youthful older man and is unbelievably caring. He worries about me ALL the time and ensures that I'm fed, watered and home safe at all times!
Mama owns the baby care centre with her daughter. She's an amazing cook and defo wears the trousers in her and papas relationship. She has a younger sister who lives down the road and you can tell they are like me and don! Mama is the controlling, overly protective, constantly worrying one, her sister the carefree, fun one.
Yim, sometimes likes me, sometimes doesn't. She's very smart and getting really good at English. You can tell she adores her family and loves to be silly and girly.
It's not just humans that live here though, I am also cohabiting with lizards, monkeys, spinning bugs, crickets and the infamous puppies!! Although kinda wish the puppies were inside and the bugs outside... Picky, I know!
When I'm not on my bed in front of my fan, I'm on the balcony. Papa sometimes plays his ukulele but other than that you can only hear dogs, crickets, frogs, gecko's and occasionally the background noise from some horrific, but strangely entertaining Thai Soap!
If you want a more atmospheric image, the house is calm at night, crazy with babies in the day. The family wake up around half 4 to pray, so by the time I'm awake the house smells of incense. There is a sense of family and history all around the house with pictures of their ancestors, monks and their family members.
It took me a while to adapt to the cold showers, Thai food and language barrier, but now I'm used to it, I know certain words, phrases and absolutely adore the Thai food... The cold showers, still adapting to!
Enough of my babbling, see for yourself!
